Engine overhaul
At Van Thiel Motoren Revisie, we are not just experts in engine overhaul. Over the years, we have built a reputation synonymous with quality and precision within the automotive industry. Engine overhaul is more than just replacing parts; it is a craft where every detail counts. It is the difference between an engine that just 'works' and an engine that performs 'whistling'.
When you entrust your vehicle to us, you get the assurance of top quality, craftsmanship and an engine that is ready to last for many miles again. At Van Thiel Motoren Revision, we always strive for perfection because we understand how important your vehicle is to you.
What is engine revision?
Engine overhaul is an art and a science at the same time. It is not just a process of taking an engine apart and putting it back together. It starts with carefully disassembling the engine, after which each individual part is carefully examined for signs of wear, defects or damage. This thorough inspection ensures that we can identify any potential problem, no matter how small.
Defective or worn parts are then professionally repaired or replaced with high-quality components. But it's not just about replacement; it is a process of perfecting, adjusting and harmonizing. When the engine is reassembled, the result is a machine that is not only running at full power again, but is also prepared for many future miles.
The purpose of engine overhaul is twofold: to extend the life of the engine and to ensure that it is performing at its absolute peak power.
Benefits of engine revision
Engine revision not only offers a solution to existing problems, but also contributes to various other positive aspects for both your vehicle and your wallet. Choosing overhaul over replacement can provide numerous benefits. Below we highlight some of the most prominent benefits:
- Longer engine life: Replacing damaged and worn parts can significantly extend the life of the engine.
- Improved performance: A reconditioned engine will perform better than an engine that has not been rebuilt.
- Cost savings: In the long run, overhauling an engine can more cost-effective than replacing them.

Why is engine revision necessary?
Every engine, no matter how well built, has a life cycle. During its life it is exposed to many factors: heat, friction, loads and therefore has to deal with everyday wear and tear. These factors can gradually take their toll. Components begin to wear, sometimes even before it becomes visible or noticeable. This wear and tear can lead to a range of problems, from reduced power and efficiency to excessive fuel consumption and potential engine failure.
But engine overhaul goes beyond reactive action. It is a proactive approach to optimise and extend the life of your engine. Engine overhaul not only addresses existing problems, but also returns the engine to a state close to its original specifications, if not better. This ensures renewed confidence in the engine's performance and guarantees that it will continue to run reliably for many years to come. In short, engine overhaul is an essential investment in the health, efficiency and durability of your vehicle.
The process of engine revision
Engine overhaul is a meticulous and technical process that breathes new life into the heart of a vehicle. It requires a combination of expertise, precision and dedication to ensure that every step of the revision ensures optimum engine performance and durability. Let's take a look at the different steps of this important process;
1. Disassembly & cleaning
The engine is completely removed from the vehicle (if we also provide assembly), taken apart and cleaned in industrial cleaning baths. All parts are carefully separated and prepared for inspection.
2. Technical inspection
Each engine component is measured and assessed for wear, cracks and size. Components such as the pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, connecting rods, cylinder head and cylinder walls are closely inspected.
3. Edit
Cylinders become honed or bored out for new pistons
The cylinder head flattened and the valves are overhauled or replaced
Crankshaft and camshaft sharpened or replaced if necessary
4. Replacement parts
All wear parts are replaced as standard:
Piston Rings
Bearings (crankshaft, connecting rod, camshaft)
Gaskets and seals
Distribution chain or belt
Water pump (if required)
Possible injectors and turbo (depending on condition)
5. Assembly and adjustment
The engine is rebuilt to the correct specifications and tolerances as specified by the manufacturer. We use only quality parts of OEM level or higher.
6. Final check
After fitting, we test the engine for oil pressure, compression and leakage. You will also receive advice on the correct running-in of the engine after overhaul, for optimum performance and service life.
When is engine overhaul needed?
An engine is built for durability, but it too wears out over time. There are several symptoms that can indicate internal engine damage or wear:
Higher oil consumption than usual
Power loss, especially noticeable when accelerating
Poor cold start or irregular idling
Blue or black smoke from the exhaust
Ticking or knocking sounds from the engine block
Coolant consumption, possibly due to a leaking head gasket
Overheating or engine running hot quickly
These signs often indicate worn piston rings, valves, bearings or other essential parts. Don't wait too long; the longer you drive on with a worn engine, the greater the likelihood of more serious (and expensive) damage.
