Mounting advice for cylinder head
1. Before starting assembly, check:
- Whether the cylinder head supplied matches the engine type.
- Whether the cylinder head delivered has no shipping damage.
- Whether everything matches the agreements made.
2. Mounting cylinder head:
- Never lay the cylinder head on the head gasket surface; this may cause damage to the fitting surface or valves.
- Try to identify the cause of the cylinder head damage and fix it first.
- Check cylinder walls and pistons for damage and remove carbon residue.
- Thoroughly clean all parts to be transferred and check them for wear or damage.
- Check the engine's head gasket fitting surface for damage and deformation.
- Clean the fitting surface and bolt holes, paying attention to the roughness of the block (as fine as possible).
- Always use new bolts (when prescribed) of the correct dimensions.
- Fit head gasket of correct thickness and type with right side up.
- Follow the prescribed tightening torques and sequence.
- Make sure the timing marks of the distribution are correct and install new timing belts and tensioner/circulating rollers.
- Allow hydraulic tappets to rest for at least one hour after assembly to adjust. Preferably rest overnight.
- For fixed tappets/valve plates, adjust the valve clearance by an additional 0.05mm margin.
- After adjusting the distribution, first rotate the engine two revolutions by hand to check that the valves do not touch the piston.
- Always change the oil, oil filter, thermostat and coolant according to the types and type designation prescribed by the factory.
- Check the radiator and water pump for leaks and function.
- With an LPG system, always run the engine on petrol for the first 1,000 kilometres and then adjust the system.
- Check ignition/injection system/fuel pump adjustment.
- Take a test drive and go over everything again.
